Services

Whether you need general garden advice, help with plantings, or full-on landscape design, A Bit of Earth can help you achieve your gardening goals. I will work with you to solve specific problems, reimagine an existing garden, or design a space from the ground up.

On-site Consultation ($85*)

For those needing site analysis, plant identification, advice on removal of invasives, or simply a brainstorming session to discuss possibilities. We will walk through your space together and then sit down to address your needs and goals. This site visit might be all the help you need, or it may be the first step in our landscaping journey.

Up to 2 hours.

Consultation Upgrade ($175*)

For those needing a bit more than a 2-hour consultation; perhaps you’d like an “on-the-fly” planting map for a space, or have a trickier problem to solve that will involve a bit more research on my part. We can discuss your needs at the consultation and see if this is a fit for you!

May Include:

  • Hand-sketched “on-the-fly” design or planting map

  • Detailed plant recommendations

  • Solutions for specific problems in your garden

Conceptual Design ($1,000*)

For a Conceptual Design, I will carve up your space into integrated, usable, and enjoyable areas that meet your backyard goals and needs; this may include plantable areas, hardscaped/patio spaces, garden structures (greenhouses, sheds, etc.), edible gardens, water features, rain gardens, and more! The finished product will be a to-scale blueprint showing the layout of the new space.

The Design will also include a Planting Map with thoughtfully chosen plant options suitable to the site conditions and preferences of the client.

Includes:

  • To-scale blueprint of new design

  • Discussion of how to implement in the future (budget, sources for labor, timeline, etc.)

  • Detailed Planting Map

Note: Up to 3 design ideas/solutions may be explored at the start of a project; once you make a decision, we’ll move forward with one idea.

Stand-alone Planting Map ($500*)

For those not needing a full Conceptual Design, I also offer a stand-alone Planting Map. The Planting Map is a hand-drawn plan showing you exactly where to place each plant, from the tree canopy to ground cover. In choosing plants, I will take into account your expressed tastes, requested level of maintenance, and budget, as well as the soil, light, & water conditions. I never choose anything invasive to our area and focus instead on a mix of natives and non-natives that are right for your space and beneficial to both you and wildlife. If you have signed up for the Backyard Habitat program and are shooting for silver, gold, or platinum certification, I will plan accordingly to ensure you have met the requirements.

May Include:

  • Detailed planting map showing size and placement of plants

  • Separate plant list in spreadsheet form

  • Details on how to plant in stages, if relevant to your project

  • Any tips I might have for specific plants regarding maintenance, care, backup choices, or where to buy.

Contract Coordinator ($85*/hour)

  • Meeting with contractors to oversee building, site preparation, organic soil preparation, plant procurement and placement, installing plantings, organic top-dressing, etc. Everything needed to make your plan a reality!

Garden Coaching ($85*/hour)

  • Hands-on lessons in:

    • Site or soil preparation

    • Plant placement

    • Installing plants

    • Seasonal pruning, care, and maintenance

*Fees assume a normal-sized yard on a standard lot of about 50’ x 100’. Actual fees may vary based on the size and complexity of the space, the project parameters, etc., and will be determined during an initial consultation.

I strive to understand the unique perspective and serve the needs of every client, and am committed to promoting equity and inclusion across race, gender, age, religion, identity, and experience.
