I choose plants - both native and non-native - that fulfill a purpose, whether that be providing habitat, food, color, or seasonal interest. Native plants tend to be low-maintenance and are hugely beneficial to wildlife. While I include natives wherever possible, I also recognize that not all of them are suited to every urban or suburban yard. I believe in finding the right combination of natives, useful ornamentals, and edibles to serve your needs and cultivate a vibrant, thriving refuge for you and your local fauna.
